COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –U.S. Paralympics, a division of the U.S. Olympic Committee, in cooperation with Massachusetts Hockey, will host the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships, March 29 - April 5, at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, Mass.
The 10 countries competing in the championships will be divided into two pools of play. Teams in the A-Pool competed in the 2006 Paralympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy, and teams in the B-Pool did not compete. The A-Pool will be comprised of: Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway and the United States. The B-Pool will be comprised of: Czech Republic, Estonia, Korea and Poland.
The U.S. Paralympics Sled Hockey National Team, which won bronze at the 2006 Paralympic Winter Games in Torino, is looking to improve on the silver medal they won in the 2004 IPC Ice Sledge Hockey World Championships.
Among the U.S. team representatives is Taylor Chace (Hampton Falls, N.H), who has been a member of the U.S. Team since 2005. He joined the team three years after he took a hit in a hockey game that left him with a broken back and an incomplete spinal cord injury. Chace made a significant impact in Torino, scoring the game-winning goal in the bronze medal game against Germany.
