Rence Coassin to Harvard in 08

CoassinHooksett, NH - Lawrence Coassin of the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs will be attending Harvard University for the fall of 2008 and will be the first Monarchs player to play for Head Coach Ted Donato. Coassin is in his second season with the Monarchs and is one of this year’s captains.  Last season he played a major role in helping the Monarchs to both the Eastern Junior Hockey League Championship and the USA Hockey Tier III Junior A National Championship.

Rence is a 6’1, 197 pound left-shot center for the New Hampshire Monarchs who is known for his playmaking ability and intensity of play.  “I would say he might be one of the hardest working players I have ever coached,” stated GM/Head Coach Sean Tremblay.  “Rence brings so much to the table each and every practice, each and every game, and we are going to miss him when he moves on to Harvard.  I am very proud of his commitment because I have seen how hard he has worked both on and off the ice to make his dream a reality.  He truly deserves this and he is going to be a great collegiate player.  It has been a pleasure to coach him and I look forward to the next few months where he will help his team to hopefully another EJHL and National title.”

"I realized I wanted to attend Harvard when I was 11 years old and watched a family friend, Brett Nowak, play in his first Beanpot for Harvard,” stated Coassin.  “Being able to go to a school with a nationally ranked hockey program and outstanding academics is a dream come true.  I would like to thank Coach Donato and his coaching staff for giving me this unbelievable opportunity. I cannot wait to compete for a National and Beanpot Championship every year"

"After graduating from Choate in 2006 joining the Monarchs organization was the key to helping me reach my athletic goals. Coach Tremblay and Coach Corkum have helped me every step of the way. Without their guidance on and off the ice this dream would not have become a reality. The Monarchs have taken my game to the next level. I look forward for the rest of the season and our quest for a three peat.  I would also to thank Coach Chris Kiene from the Mid-Fairfield program and Pat Dennehy, Mike Velez, and Brian Holloway from Choate for their influence and support over the years.

Prior to joining the Monarchs Coassin was a Choate Rosemary Hall star.  He was the assistant captain of Choate’s team in his senior year when he was also selected to the All Founders league team.  He was also captain of the Midget Tier 1 Mid-Fairfield National Championship team in 2005.  Coassin is the son of Larry and Emily Coassin of Hamden, CT.
