Former Monarch Chosen to Represent
US in Deutschland Cup

Hooksett, NH – USA Hockey today announced the 22-man roster for its 2009 U.S. Men's Select Team that will compete at the Deutschland Cup Nov. 6-8 in Munich, Germany. Derek Damon, a former Monarch and University of Maine standout was chosen to be a part of that team.


A member of the Monarchs when they were known as the Exeter Snowdevils, Damon would return home to his home state to play four years at UMaine. Following a stellar career at Maine, Damon would go on to play parts of the next 2 years between the AHL and the ECHL, enjoying a 25 goal and 75 point campaign for the Florida Everblades of the ECHL in the 07-08 season. Damon would then move on to play in the highly regarded Finnish Elite league for Assat Pori where he would finish third on his team in scoring. In 15 games for the Kassel Huskies of Germany’s premier league, the DEL, Damon has 4 goals and 11 assists for 15 points.


The Deutschland Cup has been held every year since 1990 and will feature Germany, Slovakia, Switzerland and the United States The U.S. won the tournament in 2003 and 2004, garnered a second-place finish in 2007 and finished third in 2005.

The Junior Monarchs organization would like to congratulate Derek and wish him the best of the luck in the tournament and the rest of his season.
