Monarchs Sweep CD Series for the Season
Troy, NY - The New Hampshire Monarchs once again defeated the CD Selects and once again in convincing fashion as they downed the home team 6-1 at Houston Filed House on the campus of RPI. The Monarchs staked a 3-0 lead after the first period of play and began their scoring just 2:40 into the game when Adam Kaiser sent in Jeff Hannan on a shorthanded breakaway. Hannan went to his backhand and slid it past Chance Lieb for the 1-0 lead. Minutes later Yuri Bouharevich would pound home a rebound off of a nice play from Graham Sisson and Brian Flynn. The third goal would come from the same three players this time it started with Sisson stealing the puck from a Selects defender and immediately hitting Flynn for a quick 2-0 play with Bouharevich. Both players came out of the right hand corner with Flynn carrying the puck past Lieb and then passing it back to Bouharevich who made no mistake with a one-time snapper to the top of the cage. CD made an attempt to cut the deficit with their own 2-0 play in front of the net but a tremendous glove save fro Justin Gates allowed the visiting Monarchs to hold on to their three-goal lead.
After a scoreless second period where Gates and Lieb were stupendous in goal, the CD Selects made it a 3-1 game when Corey John wristed one by Justin Gates on a screen as a CD power play had just expired. It would not last long for the Monarchs to respond when Angelo Vrachnas would net his first goal of the year with a similar goal on Lieb. Another shorthanded goal would make it 5-1 when Greg Burke snapped a wrister from Jeff Velleca and Lance Herrington. The three would strike again this time with Velleca putting it home with Burke and Herrington assisting on the play.
The Monarchs travel to Springfield, MA to take on the New England Falcons on Sunday for a 1pm contest.
