Monarchs Hire Alum Matt Dennehy

Hooksett, NH - General Manager and Head Coach Sean Tremblay announced today the New Hampshire Monarchs have hired Matt Dennehy as assistant coach for the upcoming season.  “I am extremely excited to announce Matt as assistant coach within our organization,” stated Tremblay.  “Matt is the first alumnus of the program to fill such a position which gives me great pleasure to see our past players wanting to pursue coaching as a profession; although it does make me feel a bit old.  Matt and I have had both a tremendous personal and professional relationship.  He knows and understands the culture that exists within our team and he will only enhance what we have accomplished through the years.”

Matt comes to the Monarchs from Colby College in Waterville, ME, where he spent the previous three seasons working under Head Coach Jim Tortorella. While at Colby, Matt coached three All-Americans, and two NESCAC Players of the Year. The team also made the NESCAC tournament three straight years, one as quarter-finalists, and two as semi-finalists. In his final season, the team captured the NESCAC Regular Season Championship, and, in doing so, hosted the NESCAC Final Four.  While at Colby, Matt was also able to be part of the 2007 World Ice Hockey Championships in Moscow as he served as the video coach for the Belarus National Team.  His responsibilities included video breakdown of each game in the tournament as it was being played using Gamebreaker software.  This is the same software the Monarchs use during the season.  Before Colby, Matt spent two years working under Head Coach Billy O’Neill at Salem State College. He is a 2002 graduate of Saint Anselm College and was a two-time Division II All-American hockey player. Dennehy played varsity hockey at Saint Anselm from 1998-2002 and was captain during the 2001 and 2002 seasons.

Tremblay went on to say, “I know our players our going to love Matt and they will learn a great deal from him both on and off of the ice.  He is extremely knowledgeable about the game and he has a true passion for teaching the game.  He has and will continue to have a bright career in coaching and I look forward to working with him for as long as he wants to stay with our team.  There is no doubt he will have a number of offers in the near future working with our organization.”
