Monarchs Heading to Finals for
4th Consecutive Year

Will Face BayState Breakers
in Best of Three Series at Holy Cross

Marlboro, MA - The New Hampshire Jr Monarchs will make its fourth trip in as many years to the EJHL Championship Game as they defeated the New England Huskies 3-0 in a mini-game at the New England Sports Center.  “What a thrilling day of EJHL hockey,” stated Head Coach Sean Tremblay.  “My hats off to Paul Jenkins and his entire Huskies team as they were a terrific opponent.  They are a tough team and were playing tremendous hockey for the last few months and certainly played us extremely hard.  I am very proud of our team and the character they showed by having to come back all weekend long and find ways to win.  Even more so after dropping Game Two in overtime, to calm down, re-group and re-focus, and take the mini-game shows the confidence they have in one another and the poise they handle themselves with each and every night.”  The Monarchs will face the Bay State Breakers as they defeated the Junior Bruins 1-0 in OT after tying them 2-2 on Saturday.

Recap of Game One Semi-final 3.10.07

The New England Huskies score the first three goals of the game.  Egorov scores in the first and Snell scores two in the second.  James Mello would enter the game after the Huskies third goal and shut the door for the rest of the game.  Paul Thompson would fire a Denny Kearney feed to make it 3-1 with 2:15 to play in the second.  With just 1:04 left in the second Ian O’Connor would streak down the left side and rip one short side that popped the water bottle of the net and fired up the home team in a big way.  Ryan Miniaci would take a Germain face-off draw and snap one top shelf from the blue line to tie the game at 3-3 with 13:03 remaining.  It would be another face-off play, this time to Tom Pizzo who fired a low shot inside the right post to give the Monarchs the lead with just 3:03 in the game.  Pat Knowlton, Matt Germain, and Nick DelGallo would all have two assists and O’Connor would also pick up an assist along with his goal to finish as multiple point players in the 4-3 win.  Joe Calvi would stop 38 shots, while Pat Galbraith and James Mello combined for 23 in the win.

Recap of Game Two Semi-final 3.11.07

The Huskies would again strike first on an identical goal from Egorov with 4:33 left in the first period.  It would be the only marker of the period as the Huskies went into the locker with 1-0 lead.  The Monarchs would even the score when Denny Kearney popped home a Nick DelGallo feed at 11:04 of the second.  Kearney would strike again off a pretty play from Paul Thompson and Austin Mayer with six minutes remaining in the second.  With just two-seconds left in the second the Monarchs would be called for two penalties as both linesman had individual calls of their own and would send the Monarchs into the third down 5-3 for 1:58.  It would prove costly as the Huskies would score at the 18:35 mark despite some strong penalty killing by the Monarchs.  It would be the only goal of the period as Mello would turn aside 11 shots and Calvi kick out all 15 he faced.  A five-minute overtime is the protocol and all that was need was a tie for the Monarchs to advance.  It would not be when Bobby Bryant would send the Huskies into jubilation with a nice move in front to give the Huskies the win and force a 20-minute mini-game.

Recap of Mini-Game

The Monarchs would come out flying and 5:44 into the mini-game Austin Mayer would make a great move in front of Calvi and pop it by him for a 1-0 lead.  Trevor Dodds and Paul Thompson would pick up assists on the play.  With 7:11 to play Paul Thompson would take a Mayer pass across Calvi to his blocker side and snap one top shelf for a commanding 2-0 lead.  Owen Carpino would put the nail in the coffin when he took an Ansel Ivens-Anderson pass to the point and blast one top dog to seal the 3-0 victory and send the Monarchs to the EJHL Championships Series.
