Monarchs
outscore opponents 16-4 in Foxboro Tourney
Hooksett, NH - The New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs continued
to roll taking all three EJHL games on the weekend at the annual
Foxboro Stars Tournament. Along the way they earned their first
shutout of the year blanking the Boston Harborwolves 5-0, outlasting
host Foxboro 5-3, and downing the Green Mountain Glades 6-1.
Game one on the weekend was the first shutout of the year for
the Monarchs, a shocking fact seeing they have won 46 games. James
Mello (pictured left) earned the shutout win stopping
15 Harborwolves shots. Paul Thompson (UNH) scored two goals and
added an assist to pace the offensive attack. Ansel Ivens-Anderson
put up three assists and Rence Coassin scored one goal and assisted
on another. Also scoring was Jeff Fanning (Bowdoin) and Greg Burke
(UNH).
On Saturday the Monarchs would go up 4-1 over the Foxboro Stars,
but six penalties in-a-row by the Monarchs would get the Stars
back in the game and make it 4-3 with plenty of time remaining.
Matt Germain (Providence) would end any hope with an empty net
goal. Thompson again would lead all scorers with a 1-3-4 line.
Nick DelGallo (Norwich) would pop home the first goal and also
add an assist. Pat Knowlton would also play well scoring a goal
and adding two helpers. Rence Coassin notched the Monarchs other
goal on the power play.
The final game of the weekend started out extremely poor for
the Monarchs and if not for some spectacular goaltending by Patrick
Galbraith they could have easily been down by a few goals to the
Green Mountain Glades. Ironically they would leave the first period
up 2-0, regroup in the locker room, and come out firing on all
cylinders and walk away with an impressive 6-1 win. Jordan Krusch
scored two goals and single tallies came off the stick of Austin
Mayer (Providence), Denny Kearney (Yale), Thompson, and Coassin.
Galbraith would be strong all day and stop 23of 24 shots he faced
and pick up his league leading 19th win of the season.
The Monarchs will play host to the New England Huskies on Wednesday
at 2pm. They then travel to U Mass Amherst on Friday for a 1:30pm
tilt with the New Jersey Hitmen before closing out the regular
season at home against the Junior Bruins Sunday at 2:20pm. They
are now 46-5-1 overall and are 37-4-1 in EJHL action.
